Cannabidiol (CBD) is a type of cannabinoid, found naturally in hemp cannabis plants. CBD doesn’t cause a “high” effect that most associate with cannabis which comes from THC; the stuff that does get you high.

Hemp or Sativa L is a type of cannabis plant that provides high levels of CBD. Other types of cannabis plants will be grown for THC. But we’re not here for that; today’s topic is CBD oil for pain relief.

Healthline, a well-respected health website, states that:

Some people with chronic pain use topical CBD products, in particular CBD oil, to manage their symptoms. CBD oil may reduce:

  • pain
  • inflammation
  • overall discomfort related to a variety of health conditions

The research on CBD products and pain management has been promising.

This shows that despite the field only receiving the attention it deserves, a lot of people have benefited, or at least believe they have benefited, from using CBD oil to help with the above-mentioned health issues.

Managing Pain With CBD Oil

Around the UK people with chronic pain will likely use opioids at some point. Aside from the usual side-effects, getting addicted to this type of pain killer can be an issue. Some people have started exploring CBD as an alternative to opioids and other traditional pain relief medication. There is no evidence yet that CBD is addictive or has side effects. However, more research needs to be done.

CBD for migraine relief

Results from a study done in 2017 show how consuming CBD & THC can lead to less acute pain & lower intensity of pain for those suffering from migraines.

According to the study, some participants took a mixture of two compounds.

  • Compound 1. 9 percent CBD and almost no THC.
  • Compound 2. 19 percent THC.

Phase 1 CBD Testing

No pain relief was achieved when the doses were under 100 mg. When the doses were increased to 200 mg, acute pain fell by 55%.

Phase II CBD Testing

The participants that received the mixture of CBD and THC saw the frequency of their migraine attacks fall by 40.4% the daily dose was 200 mg.

According to the study take, it was shown that CBD oil for pain relief was more effective than a 25mg dose of amitriptyline, which is known to be a tricyclic antidepressant. Amitriptyline reduced migraines by up to 40.1 percent in study participants had taken””””””

“”””CBD and arthritis pain relief

A study conducted in the year 2016 looked at CBD use in rats with arthritis.

The study required that CBD gel be applied to rats for four consecutive days. Rats received  0.6 – 3.1, 6.2, or 62.3 milligrams (mg) per day. The researchers concluded that there was reduced inflammation in the rats and overall pain in affected bone joints.

Rats who got a lower dose didn’t improve their pain scores. The research found that 6.2mg per day was a high enough dose to reduce the rats’ pain & inflammation.

Also, rats who received 62.3mg per day had parallel outcomes to the rats that received 6.2mg per day. Receiving a much bigger dosage did not result in the rats having less pain.

According to the study “The anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects of CBD gel could potentially help people with arthritis. However, more human studies are needed”
